6 Enjoyable Experiences in Cayo Guillermo

Stunning Playa Pilar Beach, Cayo Guillermo

Cayo Guillermo is a quiet beach getaway in Central Cuba in the Jardines Del Rey archipelago. Located about 40 minutes from Cayo Coco (where the airport and other resorts are located), it is even more remote and perfect for a get away from it all vibe that is still a close flight away (from Toronto, Canada). It was my early winter getaway this year and offered some great moments, views and much warmth. Grand Muthu Cayo Guillermo was a solid choice for a pleasant stay and very friendly service. Here are a few highlights of the simple things to enjoy on this beautiful island.

Playa Pilar is a magnificent beach to see. The sand is soft, the water crystal clear and beautiful. You can get here by taking a double decker bus that stops at each hotel in Cayo Guillermo. It can be reached in just 10 minutes at the reasonable cost of $5(as of 2022)

I loved gazing at the tropical flowers, especially the gorgeous hibiscus pink ones that have lush greenery and palms among them. Beautiful moments of nature surround you in Cayo Guillermo, and it is a wonderful place to unwind and take it slow. The birds singing joyfully, the wonderfully landscaped grounds and warm breezy air were simple highlights that I was grateful for each day of my trip.

I love maintaining my coffee drinking ritual in every place I travel to. Coffee breaks were special in Cuba, especially the mid afternoon ones. They were a great time to take a break from the sun and unwind in the open air lobby. A time to sip a delicious cappuccino or espresso, and enjoy people watching, conversations, or to get lost in a book.

I loved the blue and white gazebo at the resort. It was like a mysterious spot that seemed slightly hidden away. It was a little bit weathered and that added to its charm. A semi private place for some contemplation. An amazing place to gaze out during the day and in the evenings too! The energy of the sea by nightfall was quite magnetic.

While there are plenty more recommendations of things to see and do in Cayo Guillermo, it is a quiet island and a great place to get away from a fast paced schedule. Much of the charm lies in enjoying the simple things, which in this tropical atmosphere have their own special magic.
