Reading the Great Books Empower and Transform Us
Tips to select the best ones

Books offer relief from the drudgery of life in magnificent ways. The human mind gets a boost from the words written by other authors to enter a new world of imagination.
A new story with an insightful thesis, charming plots, interesting characters, and beautiful settings. These stories take us to a different universe courtesy of the authors’ delightful storytelling skills. Surreal, often surprising environments open vistas of a believable or unbelievable array of events.
Books leave an everlasting impression, there’s no doubt.
Choosing a good book requires some serious work. Recommendations are the most common and popular way to select the next read. Highly rated reviews are preferred by many people.
Bookstore displays are another way to find interesting bestsellers. Recent books of favourite authors are somebody’s route to add to the collection. Podcasts can give us an instant insight into a book, too. Checking out the bestseller lists is the easiest way to start a new adventure in reading.
Of course, our interests play a significant role in our reading habits or the creation of our libraries in our homes, iPhones or other devices. Genres guides are cursors when ordering a new book or reading a review.
Most of the self-help books I’ve read are the direct result of reading about them online. I would have never investigated that arena of knowledge for self-growth on my own.
Our uniqueness needs a customized approach not found in the pages of a bestseller but within ourselves. Nevertheless, I’m happy to have read some of them these past three years.
Book enthusiasts on Medium recommend such good books, and I have taken full advantage of their suggestions to increase my modest library.
Since books have the ability to transform us exponentially, I devote a lot of time to familiarizing myself with the author’s educational background, work experience, and contributions to the genre. Also, what kind of primary sources or research methodology do they use to authenticate their ideas or how closely do they follow the scholars of their field?
Before starting a new book, I ensure that the transformation will help me educate myself, elevate my understanding of a topic, or elucidate my questions.
I prefer to reread the classics if I cannot thoroughly research a new book or the author. They always satisfy me, providing a new insight without fail. Some books are my support system as a reference, inspiration, and comfort.
This must be the case for many writers here, as books are the best companions for almost solitary beings like us. No one gets it as much as they do why we’re not in a mood to talk to anyone. Why can’t we create a story from the idea floating above our heads and through our minds?
As a historian and teacher, I’ve spent most of my life reading history and literary books. They still fascinate me the most because they are based on years of archival research and knowledge of the primary sources.
Those of you who are unhappy, dissatisfied, and perturbed by the world can find respite by reading history; then, it will be evident that the insatiable need for power, wealth, and influence is the reason for the turmoil.
Actors might be different, ideologies might be new, and technology might be more lethal, but the blind haste to finish the other has been the case since the beginning.
We must apply caution in selecting our books and be aware of the ideas contained there, just like we’re alert when eating to maintain our health.
Next time, before picking up a book, delve into total commitment because they have the power to change and hypnotize. When the words are inked, they can perform magic for their readers. Happy Reading. ❤️❤️
