Reading ‘Here to Stay’ Is Like Climbing a Steep Hill, You Never Know What’s Coming Next
Mark Edwards is a master storyteller and ‘Here To Stay’ will make you question your relatives.

At first you will say, “Yes, I know who is behind it.” Even, your love for the book will wane too, because it’s no fun reading thrillers to the last page if you can guess the suspense. However, it won’t be that straightforward, you won’t know the ‘real’ devil until the very end.
Your guesses will waver, and in the end you would only be partially correct because this story is about a family of people who are nothing less than devils. Everyone is a villain.
The author’s writing style was so powerful that with every page I wanted to empathize with Elliot, a naïve science teacher, and have him cry on my shoulders. Yes, I felt sorry for him throughout the book.
The story didn’t slow down for a moment and captivated me until the end. The author had crafted story with twists at just the right moment, leaving me constantly wondering what would happen next and how the story would culminate.
I usually read on the Kindle app, lying on my stomach with a pillow under my chest. Many times, I came back to thunderbolt pose (sitting on my knees) as it needed my serious attention. I was left wondering, “Oh my gosh! What is happening here?”
Even I had to delay my medium posts because I wanted to know the ending.
The story begins with Elliot, a 38-year-old elementary school science teacher, hosting an open house and meeting the sweet, blue-eyed and charming Gemma. She ends up saving his life from an allergic reaction, culminating in love at first sight and then marriage. Gemma, who is from a humble background, moves into his big house and his dignified, stress-free life.
But, Elliot’s nagging and nosy in-laws soon infiltrates his ‘And they lived happily ever after’ life. They move into his home with a pretext of only staying for 2 weeks. As time goes on, he finds they are more than just nosy people. It would not be an exaggeration to call them monstrous.
But will he ever be able to live a normal, happy married life again? Or will his life forever be on a cliffhanger? Read the book to find out.
I picked up this book because Mark Edwards is a best-selling author and has fantastic reviews. I also liked the concept of guests coming in and not leaving. At first it seemed to be a humorous one like you see in movies, but it was pure devil.
Even to my enemies, I would never wish to have such relatives in their lives.
Such thoughts are proof enough that author is a master storyteller. He intended to leave the reader with these impressions.
However, one incident didn’t go well with me, where a character tries to decompose a body with chemicals. I have seen that earlier in Netflix series, ‘Breaking Bad’, where a main character uses a similar technique to decompose a corpse, and then I have also read about a real-life incident involving a similar tactic. Otherwise, the book is marvelous with characters, plot and writing style.
At the end, I enjoyed reading this book and will recommend it to all the suspense lovers.
Will I read author’s other books?
I’d surely check his books out whenever I’d feel like reading this genre.
