Readers of Medium, Thank You for Being Incredible

To me, you’re the best readers on the internet.

I’ve been writing on this platform now for ten months and loved every minute of it.

I’ve learned a huge amount through researching articles, got better at writing, and met a whole load of talented fellow writers.

And you readers, you’re in a class of your own.

I’ve written around 150 articles now, with each being clicked between 100 and 162,000 times. I’ve received so many comments and have replied to a lot of them. I miss some, not because I don’t care, but because I’m human.

Do you know how many of all the comments have been abusive, rude or even mildly troll-like?

Almost zero.

Compare that to Facebook, where the idiots pile into anything they don’t agree with. Or to YouTube, well-known for its comments full of arguing morons. Or even a Medium rival where many writers recently had a go and were horrified by their comments sections.

Medium has some of the best readers on the internet, I’m sure of it. Replies have been amazing, and occasionally, hit me with something well above what I consider my own intellectual level. People disagree politely and intelligently.

I’ve had comments that have made my jaw drop about how I’ve helped them or someone they know. The lady whose marriage felt renewed. The man who wanted to include my writing in his course on the other side of the world. The mental health facilitator will use my writing to help even more people. And all the others.

When I started writing here, I hadn’t considered how good the readers will be. I’m grateful to be able to write for you, and when I’m not writing, grateful to be one of you.

Here’s to the next ten months.
