Reading is powerful

Last year, I wrote an article for my college newspaper, and it was on writing: How you can approach writing an article. I said writing is madness, but there can be a method to the madness. Writing can be divided into four stages: madman, architect, carpenter, and judge, in that respective order.

Writing stages

Madman is when you ideate; architect is when you decide what goes where; carpenter is when you craft the sentences, and judge is when you go through each sentence and tinker or overhaul it: stuff like grammar and sentence structure, you can improve the sentence and things like that.

The bottom line is you should give every stage sufficient time when writing or preparing to write. Most people jump to the “judge” stage right from the word go and mess up the process. (If I can find the article, I will publish it here.)

Batchmate appreciating

One of my batchmates who read my article said, I loved your article, and that idea of approaching writing was novel and sensible. Then she added, “ I think you are so intelligent to approach writing this way,” I stopped her, and said, “No, I read it somewhere.” And she was like that’s what I thought, but it was a great read.

Of course, I knew that reading makes you sharper, but this time someone else was saying it. That moment is still stuck in my head, and when I started my reading journey, I never knew back then something like this would happen.

Of course, you can’t sustain the reading habit if the only motivation you have is to impress others; it’s something that will automatically happen, and even if it doesn’t, rest assured, you will be seen as a wise person if you are well-read.

So keep reading and learning; to be honest, I haven’t been able to read much in the last few weeks, but this incident just popped into my head, and it’s one among many reasons that reminds me why I shouldn’t stop reading, though some days it could be just one page.

I have a to-read list, which I probably will share in another article.

How often do you read? If you have stopped reading, maybe you can start again; it’s never too late to read and learn.
