Re: It’s Now Time For Issue №1 Of The Roam Howl Roundup!
Do you think AI is an existential threat to the human race?
Seeing as my big values are centered around artistic-emotional-psychological-technological-sociological-historical-et cetera curiosity and exploration….. I thought I’d rename my newsletter the Roam Howl Roundup.
With zero ado, let’s dive in.
1. I’ve got AI on my mind.
Did you hear about German photographer Boris Eldagsen who declined to accept the Sony world photography award for best photograph because he didn’t disclose that the image was AI Generated?
The image is beautiful. I wish I knew which elements of this image are AI-generated.
Photoshop has been around for a while now. My husband works in theatrical motion picture and fashion industries and trust me — the images we see have little relationship to reality.
An unsuspecting eye would have no idea what’s been manipulated, constructed, retouched, composited and what’s not.
This is an example of how our eyes have become conditioned to seeing images and presuming they are “real” when there is nothing “real” about them — except that they are digitally manipulated and created.

2. The apocalyptic prophesizing around AI is unnerving me.
If you need to stay awake to finish a project and don’t care about losing zzzz’s, tune into the Lex Fridman Podcast Episode # 368 interview with Eliezer Yudkowski and get up to speed.
Yudkowski is a legendary researcher and writer on the topic of super-intelligent AI.
He and Lex talk for hours about whether there is a “mind” inside AI. Is it conscious? Can it reason? Does it have emotions? How do we even define AI consciousness?
I don’t think that AI is “conscious” and has emotions. But I’m not an expert — just a curious and very intrigued human who falls over the sci-fi guardrails on this topic when I have bandwidth.
What’s scary is that there are people out there who are far more educated on the topic than me who are genuinely not sleeping because of the potentiality.
3. On the more optimistic side,
if you choose to be a positive thinker, then listen first to the interview Lex had with Sam Adler Episode # 367 about CHATGPT.
Sam Adler is the CEO of Open AI (which began with Elon Musk (Musk exited years ago)) and he has a positive outlook about AI without prognosticating that AI will kill us all, eventually.
It’s a great generally uplifting conversation about GBT-4, Chat GPT and the Future of AI that won’t prompt you to call your doctor to renew your prescription for antidepressants.
4. I (kinda) watched Cocaine Bear.
I couldn’t bear it (no pun intended). But I was in the room where it was playing and too tired to move, so I rotated between checking my phone and seeing what a ridiculous movie it is.
Mostly I checked my phone. I’m not even going to link to it.
If AI is going to bring us more of this kind of “entertainment,” then perhaps wiping out our pathetic species and starting over is not a bad idea.
5. I’m still reading Rick Rubin’s book on The Creative Act: A Way of Being, and relishing every word.
I’m going to round up some of my favorite quotes from this book and share them shortly…..
6. I just spent a glorious 3.5 days training with the lawyers who are faculty with the Gerry Spence Method trial college.
Gerry Spence is a legend, and these lawyers are his hand-picked successors. I was humbled and honored to be and train with them. More info on this soon, but for now I will just say,
WOW!
7. The Art of Influence and the Power Lab.
I have a link below for you to join the waitlist, and a description of what it is. As I ponder AI and its ramifications,
I think that what I teach has never been more important.
AI will never eliminate the need for human physicality — affection, physical contact, and what happens in a room where there are real live humans and you need to interact with them to get what you need.
This makes what I teach even more important today.
Here’s a link to join the waitlist for the Art of Influence featuring the Power Lab, opening up this summer: https://roamhowl.com/power_waitlist
That’s all for now. Everyone be well and prosper!
