Summary

"Raving Sanity" is a poem reflecting on the complexities of emotional turmoil and the struggle to articulate one's actions amidst a backdrop of seasonal change and introspection.

Abstract

The poem "Raving Sanity" by J.D. Harms delves into the paradoxical state of a mind that is both weary and restless, set against the unexpected warmth of a late fall sun. It portrays a speaker who is emotionally drained yet unable to find rest, leaving tasks unfinished and seeking catharsis in loud noises. The poem conveys a sense of self-inflicted pain as a means to understand pressure, and a moment of contemplation at the top of stairs, where the speaker grapples with the anticipation of an imminent action. The day's cycle culminates in a late-night reflection, posing a rhetorical question about the decision to delay or confront the inevitable next step, symbolized by the choice to hit the snooze button or not.

A Poem

A summer sun makes itself felt in late, late fall

Exhausted but not sleeping leaving so many things on the side, behind opening doors just to hear the slam

Energy defunct then burst through the crying and the playing

Tracing scars with a knife to find out what pressure really means

Standing at the top of the stairs try to articulate what you’re going to do

Fail fail fail then it’s 11'o’clock and what happens next… are you going to hit the snooze?
