Raising a Large Breed Puppy

Author’s Personal Photo: Coby

This beautiful boy busted my lip. It wasn’t malicious. It wasn’t because he’s a scary pitbull.

It was because he’s nearly 75 pounds. He acts the same way a little puppy would. He jumps, nips, and isn’t terribly coordinated.

As a large breed puppy parent, you have to protect yourself from their antics. I got hurt because I wasn’t paying attention. He jumped up quickly and the top of his head hit the bottom of my chin.

It’s also on you to educate your guests about how to interact with your pup. Some dogs have an immediate “let’s play” attitude and others need a minute before interacting with strangers.

Bottom line, if you are planning on bringing a bull in a China shop into your home…I mean a large puppy…be ready for adventure. Remind yourself big doesn’t equal maturity!
