Raise Your Hand if You Know About this Cool Twitter Feature!
Do you want to bring more attention to the story links you post in your tweets?
Twitter news that relates to improving my stats and making more money on Medium is the kind of news I like to read about, and also what I plan to talk about in this story.
Even though the “Twittersphere” might be raving and ranting about some other topic today; the news I have to offer about Twitter is for those writers who what to gain a bigger following on Medium and potentially earn a few extra cents to their stats.
Give me a few minutes to tell you about a cool feature that I use when I post my tweets, and how easy it is to gain a little more visibility for certain stories.
What is Twitter talking about today?
Twitter is always buzzing with the latest and often most controversial news around, like the subject of Republican Senate nominee Hershel Walker’s latest abortion related scandal.
There’s never any telling what Twitter is talking about today!
Practically anything goes on Twitter; whether you’re talking about Walker’s own situation, his son Christian Walker, attacking him on the platform, or the latest re-decision by Elon Musk, to go ahead and purchase the popular social media site.
But in spite of how juicy and salacious so much of Twitter’s content is, there is another good reason how the site manages to capture and hold so many peoples’ attention for so much of their day.
Smart social media posters know how to use Twitter tools and features that help make an easier reading experience.
If you’re a writer on Medium, looking for a way to help boost your stats and improve your earnings; one option is to post story links on Twitter, after you get familiar with using certain Twitter features and resources.
I’m sure you want to help both you and your followers benefit from the stories you post on Twitter, and you can.
For instance, did you know that on Twitter, you have the ability to “pin” stories, just like you do on Medium?
Notice how I take advantage of this cool Twitter feature.
Twitter and Medium are not oil and vinegar
Not all writers on Medium feel the need to take advantage of social media sites. Some may mistakenly view Twitter and Medium like oil and vinegar, but they are dead wrong.
The two popular sites definitely will mix well together.
Personally, I don’t see Twitter as a waste of a writer’s time, particularly for writers who hope to eventually gain a wider audience and increase their reach.
For example:
Sometimes I publish a story that I believe will do particularly well on Twitter.
That’s when I do the following after I hit publish on Medium:
- Capture the story link (copy & paste)
- Create a shorter link (I use the Bitly.com site)
- Post a tweet on Twitter (include the story link)
Once my tweet has been posted, then I proceed to click the little dot that allows me to pin the story to the top of all the other tweets I’ve made.
Just click in this area…

…And select the “pin” option

Your selected story will stay pinned until you decide to pin another more relevant story in its’ place.
In fact, just like on Medium, I take advantage of Twitter’s “pin” feature, and I keep the story at the top of my tweets for as long as I feel it’s effective.
NOTE: As far as I know, only one story will remain pinned at a time, but feel free to correct me if I’m wrong.
Of course that means watching, and monitoring the results, as they relate to your Medium stats.
So let’s consider what this could mean to your earnings.
Why use the pin feature when posting tweets on Twitter?
One reason I even bother with Twitter, is because I’m actually hoping to engage those writers on Twitter, who are not yet members on Medium.
I see it as a good way to help them eventually read something that will motivate them to finally come join the platform.
Some stories that I post — like this one — speak directly to those readers:
There are tons of writers and self published authors on Twitter, who also visit Medium from time to time. Many of them have failed to sign up to become full members of the community.
So when I publish a story that might help to change that, I make sure to post a tweet about it on Twitter.
Final Thoughts
Are you one of those writers who doesn’t take advantage of posting on Twitter because you’re not sure about how to harness the power of this global social media site?
Don’t allow yourself to be intimidated by the more prominent newsworthy stories on Twitter, like those about Hershel Walker, Christian Walker or Elon Musk.
You don’t have to be popular like Beyoncé or even so obnoxious that you get kicked off the platform (like someone who shall remain nameless).
The fact of the matter is, everyone uses the Twitter social media site, for their own purposes and to their own advantage.
Just like I did when with the example tweet I shared. This is the tweet I pinned on my profile page:
