Summary

"Railway To The Summer" is a poignant poem by America Zed that reflects on love, loss, and the transient nature of emotional landscapes.

Abstract

The poem "Railway To The Summer" by America Zed captures the fleeting essence of happiness and love, comparing them to a brief summer season. It conveys the journey of a narrator who experiences the intensity of a passionate relationship, which has now faded into memories of pain and sadness. The poem suggests that the joy and connection once shared are now overshadowed by the melancholy of the past, as the speaker contemplates the purpose of sentiment and love when faced with solitude and the passage of time. The repeated refrain of the railway symbolizes a path that once brought light out of darkness, now seemingly indifferent to the narrator's emotional state. The poem concludes with a contemplative question about the meaning of it all when one closes their eyes to the world, hinting at an existential reflection on the nature of the soul and its journey.

Opinions

  • The poem expresses a sense of nostalgia and longing for a past relationship that was once vibrant and full of promise.
  • There is a strong theme of contrast between light and darkness, suggesting the fluctuating nature of emotions and the bittersweet quality of love.
  • The railway metaphor indicates a journey through life and emotions, with the summer representing a peak of joy and warmth that is inevitably followed by colder seasons.
  • The speaker feels that the intensity of their love and the depth of their sadness are not acknowledged or understood by others, emphasizing a sense of isolation.
  • The poem questions the value and permanence of emotional experiences, implying that they may ultimately be transient and inconsequential in the grand scheme of existence.

We arrive like flowers, We are some good news, Only for a while it seems, then the sun wont, follow you.

Still, once he could find me, Through a passionate flame,

Now who am I, standing here, On the platform of my pain.

Railway to the Summer, That line out of the dark,

Have you got no time, for where love’s been,

Or the sadness in my heart.

Railway to the Summer, Rushing sentiment straight out,

Tell me what’s it all for when I close my eyes,

Like a soul that goes without.

We lived for such a long time, in separate dreams, The attraction was a difference, It just took hold of me.

So I never minded, Thoughts I couldn’t know, First I was all things, But now I’m on my own.

Railway to the Summer, That line out of the dark,

I guess you’ve got no time, for where love’s been,

Or the sadness in my heart.

Railway to the Summer, Rushing sentiment straight out,

Tell me what’s it all for when I close my eyes,

Like a soul that goes without.

Tell me what’s it all for when I close my eyes …
