Racism
Racism: What Tells The Dictionary
What the dictionary says about racism. Do we have to rethink what the dictionary should say about racism? What can we learn from it?
I thought, starting to learn more about racism by looking at what the dictionary says about racism, as I know little about it.
Racism is being underrated by a lot of people, including me. With all the situations going in the world, it is my duty, as a human being taking part in the world, to understand, to know, and participate in not being a racist.
So, I start first by knowing what racism means and what racism is by hearing stories from those being in it and faced through it. Then you understand what people feel, then you understand the underlying problem of racism, just to open a conversation that is really needed; to go further in this problem. And take the action we have to and black people want us to.
According to the Cambridge Dictionary, racism means
the belief that people’s qualities are influenced by their race and that the members of other races are not as good as the members of your own or the resulting unfair treatment of members of other races.
According to the Cambridge Dictionary, race means
a group, especially of people, with particular similar physical characteristics, who are considered as belonging to the same type, or the fact of belonging to such a group.
So, starting with the dictionary what they say. Is it complete what this dictionary says? Or does this statement from the dictionary need to change as well as the people who need to change?
What are these particular similar physical characteristics? Is that only for black people and/or colored people?
Or is it also people with disabilities? Are these people from the LGBT community used as racist objects (too)?
I’m a little bit confused right now about what racism really means. At least, to what has happened in the USA and its real meaning towards the black community. And what it should mean in the future, for all of us all for all groups.
If I understand it right, the problem of this moment is that black people have been hurt too much as well as in the past by white people. That this is happening everywhere they come, they’re still continuing to live and they’re still feeling hurt.
Things happening a lot these days.
From what happened in the last days, do we need to rethink what the term racism really should mean?
A lot of stuff to think about! We need to. Keep doing it.
