All lives should matter

A virus does not discriminate. Racism does.

Although anyone anywhere can get the COVID-19 virus because it does not discriminate, it is very harmful and destructive to life. Racism also brings harm to many people, but it does discriminate. Racism is directed toward people who are different in some manner to the person inflicting the racism.

Everyone generally would agree that life is not fair. There are people who are born into affluence, and others who are born into poverty. There are some who enjoy loving families while others do not. There are people who are healthy and strong throughout their entire lives, and there are those who suffer with physical or mental disabilities. Some are given educational opportunities so that they may advance in life, and some never receive the chance to go to college.

Life is not fair, but people CAN overcome the trials and difficulties they face if they will put forth enough hard work and dedication. They also need to be given a chance to succeed.

It is not a level playing field, but we have all seen people who have overcome the odds to become huge successes. It can be done, but it is not easy.

Some people in all races have achieved remarkable feats. There are Blacks, Latinos, Asians, Native Americans, and others who may have seemed marginalized who have equaled or exceeded the abilities and achievements of their White counterparts. It can be done and should be done in more cases.

Those who have “made it” and achieved a good life can help those who have struggles. It is said that people can be pulled up by their boot straps, but that is difficult if they have no boots. There are many who are disadvantaged and could use some assistance. It can be financial, emotional, or spiritual. There are many ways to help.

Everyone deserves a fair chance in this life. It will take more people being willing to offer help to make a more just society. Diversity is a part of life. Everyone should be treated equally.

Racism is a hindrance to achievement and success. People are beat down by racism and hate. No one deserves that treatment.
