Quote Prompt №12

I am (finally!) back with a new quote, and I hope you all will participate! I have loved reading your poetry and thoughts on these prompts.

Welcome to Quote Prompt № 12!

I do not know about you, but I have had a hard time keeping up with my daily writing for Medium since the pandemic. I thought time at home would allow my creative juices to overflow into a lot of writing, but my energy has been channeled towards raising a puppy, working in my yard, and teaching my classes on-line. I also know that I have been processing grief around my father’s death in February. This has been surprisingly quiet work. I am realizing that this grief often has no earthly language. It takes form in unfamiliar ways, and it often takes no form at all.

This week’s quote comes from one of my favorite authors, Cheryl Strayed. She inspires many people, and she gives life advice with no bullshit, down-to-earth humor. I often turn to reading her quotes during hard times. Her words are also very tender and healing, realistic and timely. Here is the prompt:

“I’ll never know, and neither will you, of the life you don’t choose. We’ll only know that whatever that sister life was, it was important and beautiful and not ours. It was the ghost ship that didn’t carry us. There’s nothing to do but salute it from the shore.” — Cheryl Strayed
