Quit Your Job And Start Your Own Business — A biggest Lie You Have Been Told

Your Job Can Create Jobs For You

Most of us want to be our own bosses, and I too wanted the same.

It feels great to dream of being an entrepreneur and developing a venture.

Are you also seeing articles, posts, and videos about “Why not quit your job and be an entrepreneur?”. I also see these types of articles popping up on my screen and before my eyes.

I have read many of these where the writer asks us a question.

“Why don’t you quit your job and be your own boss?”

I never felt this question was relevant. I was not born with a silver spoon in my mouth. I don’t think most of us are so rich for this.

Degree from the College

My university gave me the engineering degree in 2012, and I had many options at that time, like doing a Masters, going into research, or starting my own small IT business.

But I didn’t choose any of them; the only relevant option for me according to my situation and condition at the time was to get a job based on my degree.

I started working for a corporation to earn money and to learn technology and professionalism.

Was it good for me to start a business at that time?

No, it was not. I was lacking in experience and money too.

To start a business, you don’t only need an article to read. You need expertise in that field, and you also need money to start that business.

Your first job should pay you well to save and invest in it. You dream of traveling to beautiful places and restaurants, and for that, you need a well-paying job.

In your early career, you need a safe income source where you can get paid every month for sure.

After 10 years of Experience

I am currently working for a corporation and have almost 12 years of experience. But if you still ask me that question about being an entrepreneur, I will still say a clear no.

No, because of many reasons.

A startup requires a good amount of money that can work as a backup for you.

You have to forget about work-life balance for the first few years, and I cannot do that now. I have EMI’s to pay, and during the first few years of the startup, I cannot say it will pay me for my expenses and EMI’s.

Quitting a job and starting a startup is not everyone’s choice, as per the conditions. It can be easy for some, but for others, their salary is the only source that can help them meet their needs.

It is not easy to quit a job that pays your expenses, your EMI’s, and you are able to save or invest some amount of money.

It is good to look for multiple sources of income, but leaving the major source to start a fresh one is not my cup of tea.

Now What

After 12 years of experience, I have started working on different sources of income and trying something new.

The most important one is writing. I have started writing on Medium and other platforms. Although in India, the partner program has not yet started, I am sure Medium Staff will surely start this as soon as possible.

I write and have self-published a book that gives me some royalty. Not too much, but yes, somewhat is there, and something is better than nothing.

I am looking forward to creating my digital products in the coming days. These things do not come in the way of my 9-to-5 job. I learn from doing these things, and it is my interest that leads me to do this.

I love creating things — articles, poems, eBooks, books, and anything that can provide value to people.
