OPINION
Quintessential Satirist
A Lifetime of Laughter

The Emmy Awards nominations have been announced and I am pleasantly surprised that one of my favorite people on TV — Trevor Noah’s The Daily Show has clinched a nomination. This is great news and I hope he wins.
Trevor’s brand of political satire is the perfect antidote to these trying times. His ability to analyze and break down political and social issues while adding humor makes him stand out not only as a comedian but also as a commentator. He somehow manages to educate and humor you while analyzing serious topical issues.
Trevor is a polyglot and possesses the uncanny ability to mimic the nuances, accents, and body language of almost any culture he chooses to take on.
I love the way he interacts with his audience allowing them to ask him questions prior to the show and answering with the same candor, humor, and deep dissection of issues. He is always genuinely interested in where people come from asking them about peculiarities in their culture, language, speech, and other things.
I especially enjoy the daily show because he tries to get in-depth on issues causing us to think independently and dispassionately and thus to come to our own conclusions based on available facts all the while throwing in huge doses of humor.
Trevor doesn’t shy away from telling his own story — about his upbringing, his parents, his grandmother, his South African heritage, and so on. This provides a special connection with his audience and fans giving them a further appreciation of South Africa’s status as a cultural melting pot.
Here’s wishing him all the best.
