Quick Trips in Tennessee
From Nashville for the day.
Living in Tennessee is an adventure. In the west, the land is flat, horizontal. In the east, the land is almost vertical.
In the middle is Nashville.
For a quick adventure my wife and I will drive on a weekend day to Athens, Tennessee, McMinn County in the east, to visit one of our daughters and her family. The visit is a joy. The trip is the adventure.
We usually leave home in the early morning and travel down I-24, crossing Moneagle Mountain, to Chattanooga. Then we take I-75 towards Knoxville, but stopping at Athens, the “Friendly City.”
At the end of the day, we can come back the same route or jump up to I-40 to travel west, back to Nashville.
The scenery either way is magnificent and the trip takes three hours each way. That adventure truly showcases the state.
Next time I hope to showcase the restaurant we rarely miss at exit 114 off I-24 near Manchester, Tn. We find excellent food even if we don’t get fries with that!
