Quick Guides for Punctuation and Word Usage
One comma in the wrong place can change the meaning of a sentence
English is a difficult language to learn and use correctly. Many of the rules change with the times or have exceptions, based on usage. When my consulting clients first asked me to teach grammar and punctuation refreshers to their employees, I thought it would be easy since I was a professional writer and editor. Was I wrong! I had forgotten a lot of the rules and discovered that the ones I thought I had remembered correctly were, in fact, sometimes wrong. After swallowing a hefty dose of humility and chagrin, I set about re-learning what I had learned years ago.
When I started teaching this subject, I discovered that I wasn’t alone. Most of the participants in my workshops and webinars were as rusty as I had been, so I created 2 quick guides to help them remember what I was teaching — one for proper punctuation usage and one for correct word usage. I have updated those guides for 2022, and you can download a copy here. It’s a direct download; no email is needed. If you find it valuable, feel free to pass it on.
Thanks for reading, Patricia
