Quarantine Diary, week six
Monday, Apr. 20
I can’t believe we’re on week 6.
It’s very quiet here for 4/20. The streets are nearly deserted with fewer people than I’ve seen the last few days, but lots of helicopters buzzing around.
Tuesday, Apr. 21
The ending of The Plot Against America really hit me hard. The series was excellent, but it felt very close to our current reality.
I read one of the Prince retrospectives and I’m mourning him all over again and missing him, 3 years after he died.
I find that I get very emotional over lots of things, like hearing certain songs.
Wednesday, Apr. 22
Zazie had to close because the funding they applied for hasn’t arrived. Until now they were remaining open for takeout, and they’re continuing to pay insurance for all of their employees. They’re the most popular restaurant in Cole Valley and the heart of the neighborhood. This one really hurts.
Thursday, Apr. 23
The networks need to stop airing his daily press briefings. There’s no useful information and they’re getting dangerous with his false claims.
I’ve been thinking a lot about the November election. I expect there to be a lot of election meddling, and if 45 loses I expect rioting by his supporters and that he’ll refuse to leave office. I’m sure it’s going to be very ugly.
Friday, Apr. 24
The weather was very warm and sunny, so I went for a walk around the neighborhood. I still see a lot of people not wearing masks.
Saturday, Apr. 25
When I went to the grocery store this morning, they told me the Vogmask, which I have left over from fire season, isn’t acceptable because it has a vent. They gave me a disposable mask to wear over it.
I took part in #SingOutSF by going outside and singing “I Left My Heart In San Francisco” at noon. I heard a few other people in the distance also singing.
I took advantage of another warm sunny day and went for a walk to Haight Street and around my neighborhood. Almost all of the shops on Haight Street are closed and boarded up.
Sunday, Apr. 26
I finally watched Zazie dans le Metro, the namesake of my neighborhood’s famous brunch place, on the Criterion Channel. It’s hilarious.
Someone in my building got a huge delivery of toilet paper. I still have a 12 pack in the closet and about 6 rolls under the sink.
