Quarantine diary, week 8

Since my days have been fairly uneventful, instead of a daily log, I’ll only be posting highlights and observations from now on.

5/5/20

Today is Henri’s birthday. I gave him a few new toys but Desi grabbed them right away. He didn’t seem to mind.

Zazie reopened for takeout, with a few Cinco de Mayo specials including tacos and huevos rancheros.

I don’t care much for Cinco de Mayo because it seems to be an excuse to drink lots of tequila and get drunk. I can’t stand tequila or any agave based drinks. The first time I got drunk as a kid was on tequila and to this day I associate it with feeling sick and vomiting.

When I went to Walgreens today I saw an elderly white man shop without a mask and they didn’t say anything to him. A few weeks ago I saw two employees escort out a black seemingly homeless man for not wearing a mask.

5/6/20

I attended two Zoom discussions with a local author last night and this morning, discussing the history of autism, the beat generation, and several other topics.

My Twitter account is locked for 7 days because of an angry reply to someone who called herself a “granny killer” and called for ending lockdown.

I made Instant Pot chili with 2 cans of beans, a can of diced tomatoes (Instacart delivered the wrong kind, with garlic & olive oil), ground chorizo, and a generous amount of chili powder. I didn’t have any onion or other fresh vegetables. It came out OK.

5/8/20

I’ve been listening to Bob Dylan’s new song, “False Prophet”, his third one this year. He also announced a new album. This is some of his best work in a long time.

I did a pre-shabbat zoom with my rabbi and his family. It was nice to see them.

5/9/20

I took a walk around the neighborhood and up to Haight street. It’s still pretty much deserted with most shops closed.

5/11/20

I probably won’t continue this series since the days and weeks are blurring together and I’ve settled into a routine.
