Quality VS. Quantity as a Creator
Should we pursue the quality of our work or the quantity?

This is one of the hottest topics to discuss among creators or with people who try to achieve through their creative works. As a creator, no matter whether you are full-time or part-time, should we focus on the quality of our creation, or should we try to produce as many creations as possible?
The quality of your work is very important, but I believe that it is better to focus on quantity rather than the quality as an online writer.
You don’t know what you are good at
When it comes to online writing, it is difficult to know which post of yours will be popular unless you publish lots of them. If you have an experienced editor, you may be able to seek their advice. If not, you need to try to write as an experiment so that you can find out which part of your writing is acceptable by the most people. You can analyse the result of your experiment and you will then be able to focus on the subject that you are best at.
I think you need to write as many as possible, especially when you start writing. Frequent writing also helps you make writing part of your routine.
Good quality is not equal to spending time to create
When you want to create something high quality you may want to spend more time than usual. However, the creation that other people think is high quality is not always the thing that you spend the most time to create.
I used to paint when I was a student, as I wrote before :
I sometimes spent lots of time to paint, but the picture which I was most confident with painting was not always the one which got the most applause. On the contrary, the paint which I didn’t spend much of my energy got the best reputation.
How many artworks did the world-famous maestros produce?
- Johann Sebastian Bach (composer, 1685–1750): more than 1,000 pieces of music
- Pablo Picasso (painter, sculptor, 1881–1973): more than 20,000 paintings, drawings, sculptures and other artworks
- Masaoka Shiki (Haiku poet, 1867–1902): more than 100,000 ― 200,000 Haiku poems (it’s not clear)
- Osamu Tezuka (manga artist, 1928–1989): over 700 volumes with more than 150,000 pages
We may be familiar with their names and some of their creations, but they are just the tip of the iceberg. Why shouldn’t we create a greater number of pieces?
Some people say that you should create good quality ones and not just create cheap pieces. I agree with them to some extent. We can’t just create rubbish every day, but I think it is also important to let your audience choose which they like and which is not so nice.
Life is a repetition of trial and error. Plus, you can revise your writing online after you publish it as often as you want.
