Photo-a-Day Challenge
Quacklings and Other Things
An up-and-down week
My week started up. Sunday, my camera and I went for an early morning walk in search of wood storks. We found two!

Monday started off up with another long walk. I found Jerusalem Artichoke Sunflowers growing along a fence, laughing in the face of fall.
Monday night began 36 hours of down. My gallbladder attacked without mercy. Despite my GI doctor referring me to a surgeon for possible gallbladder surgery 15 days before, I still hadn’t heard from the surgeon. GI doctor’s nurse called his office again Wednesday morning. As of Thursday, no response. I called my primary care doctor for a new referral and he said to follow through with the first one. On Friday, I finally got an appointment with the surgeon for the last Monday of the month. Why is health care so difficult in this country???
I wasn’t up to walking Tuesday or doing much of anything, so I’m cheating with another photo from my Monday morning walk.

Wednesday my pain began to subside but I was exhausted and slept on and off. Captain Argentina, Tango, and Syau joined me for an afternoon nap. Sébastien is napping somewhere — alone, as he prefers.
Thursday was up because I felt better and because it was a gorgeous morning for lake photography.
Captain Argentina, always on a quest to improve the English language, has christened the ducklings The Quacklings, and so they will be called from this moment forward.
The Quacklings came to the patio to eat this morning, along with 4 Tobies, and a gaggle of Whistlers. Later, I found the Quacklings bathing in the shallow lake waters, splashing about and furiously flapping their wings.

The Whistlers were annoyed with all the Quackling commotion and flew to the water. The lake was in perfect Monet-form.

On Thursday, I received worrisome news that a small gator was spotted sunning on a log in our lake. My concern about the fox has been superseded by worries about the gator.
The reflective colors in the lake water this time of year are amazing. Friday was another Monet morning— definitely an up way to start the day when some of the Quacklings headed for our shore and their breakfast.

Despite the gallbladder attack, I worked extra hours all week thanks to an audit and my assistant at one office being on vacation. Saturday I was tired and still experiencing some gallbladder discomfort but worked a full day. The day was rather down but the morning was up because the lake was still in a state of reflective glory when I got this shot of two Whistlers at the water’s edge.

Hopefully, next week will be all ups and no downs!!

A little more than a year ago, I started the Photo-a-Day Challenge to help combat the virus blues. I take photos every day and choose one (maybe, two) to represent the day. Then, add a one-or-two-word descriptor and maybe, some narrative. A simple way to observe and preserve.
