Putting Others First

“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves.” (Philippians 2:3)

As Christians, we are called to live selflessly, putting others before ourselves. This is easier said than done, as we are all human and prone to self-centeredness. However, if we truly believe and trust in God, we can develop a heart that desires to love and serve others.

In today’s society, it’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of our own lives, always thinking about our needs and wants. We can even be tempted to compare ourselves to others and think we are better or worse than them. However, God calls us to value others above ourselves. This means recognising the worth and value of every person we encounter; regardless of their social status, race or religion.

We can show this by simply being kind and compassionate to others; whether it’s a smile, a kind word or a small act of service. When we make an effort to put others first, we open up the opportunity to share the love of Christ with them. Jesus himself modeled this selflessness when he came to earth and laid down his life for us.

Let us make a conscious effort to live selflessly and value others above ourselves, just as God values us. As we do this, we can make a difference in the world and bring glory to our Heavenly Father.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help us to have a heart like Jesus; one that is selfless and focused on others. Teach us to recognize the value and worth of every person we encounter and give us the courage to show love and compassion to them. May we be your hands and feet in the world, bringing hope and joy to those around us. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
