When you walk through “your” Romanov palaces, Putin,

do you still think of your KGP days, supporting the Red Army Faction?

You were always ready to spread chaos and undermine democracy,

training ground for your later years as dictator and supreme leader.

We know you were longing for the absolute power of the Czars.

Now only war will do,

first Crimea, now Ukraine.

The Russian population is shrinking.

Better to attack now while there are enough young men

to send on their “training mission,”

sacrificing them for what?

You promised Xi Jinping to wait until after the Olympics

and that the Ukraine would surrender in less than a week.

But now Ukraine, Georgia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina

are trying to join NATO and the EU.

You opened Pandora’s box.

The Germans are now devoting 2% of their GDP to defense.

(You managed in two days what Trump couldn’t do in four years.)

The EU seemed outdated and doomed to fail,

but you gave it fresh wind and a new relevance.

You were somewhat of a pariah before,

but now they hate you, and your own people

are rushing to the bank to get as much money as they can

now that the ruble has crashed.

The world is reacting in ways not seen before.

The Ukrainians are not backing down.

They send pictures to the whole world about

the death and destruction you caused.

People from all over the world help in old ways and new.

They book Air B&B's as a way to send money.

I hope that soon this war will end

and that your days are numbered.
