Purpose

Wednesday: What does having purpose mean to you?

It means heading in one direction that I choose.

I believe in my purpose as a being, as human. To that front I’m trying to tilt the scales towards good and beauty through my thoughts, my actions, my writing, the way I’m raising my kids.

My sort of mundane purpose, my goal, changes usually, either because it’s been achieved, modified, escalated, postponed- depending on circumstances, internal or external factors.

I’m a stubborn creature unable to be restful or happy without a purpose, so I move on with determination and meaning, sticking to my goals. I’m smiling now, typing, remembering how I’ve used my persistence and tenacity slamming my head into brick walls that weren’t mine to break. I believe that’s youth, inexperience, the childish belief that one can accomplish anything if they put their mind into it. Nowadays I follow what’s meant to be is meant to be and what passes us by is meant to pass us by.

Learning has always been my main focus. I’ve always seen it as a foundation, the center from where everything begins, continues and grows. I’ve spent most of my years on this planet focusing on learning for one goal or another, with the idea that knowledge is power and it cannot be taken from us. It’s recent that I’ve understood how the core is within the self, and that growth is invaluable.

To that respect I am but a seed. In fact I was just thinking this morning how we are all spread around the world, yet seeds from the same pod. Education, background, upbringing, nothing seems to matter when we talk about the self, because we have the same essence. Our souls seem to have been created from one. We’re born the same, love, laugh, suffer similarly, then leave the same way.

Having purpose means living.
