Purple Sunsets
A poem about the art of waiting and hoping
“All human wisdom is contained in these two words, ‘Wait and Hope.” — Alexander Dumas
I’ve got enough time for us both Take a minute an hour a century. O! I could listen to you sing your timeless songs of the heart those stories are my fibers my blanket of warmth in winter's solitude.
Don’t listen to my clattering clocks they lost their minds long ago the chimes are nothing But zen echoes of my yearning soul.
Perhaps we are jade vines in the same open fields I only pray the wind blows you near to hold hands and speak of days gone by and tomorrow’s ahead.
I’ve collected all this time waiting for you that even death steals tomorrow from my basket; that weaved by grandmothers arthritic hands.
I’ve got time for you eternities in between those flashes of the kiss, the kids the smile and the sleep.
I’ve got all that time when you’re ready find me at a house upon the sea watching purple sunsets crabs scuttle along hourglass-worn sand; and seagulls dive free; in secrets hidden upon island trees.
To hear the songs of whales cry out, history of the sea; as the waves crash and bellow, among rock and coral wrapped in sage green seaweed.
