POETRY
Proud of Who I Am
Strong and Independent

The boys from the block, yeah They’ve known me since I was small I wasn’t a lady, they say I was their brother, that’s all I always knew I’d go out and raise hell But in the neighborhood, they all knew me A girl’s girl, through and through
Mom saw that I was crazy, a tomboy She left me alone and said Let her be, she’s beautiful. I kept pushing the string and making a mess But she knew she had a girl’s girl at home. Dad always told me I was crazy Day after day, week after week I came home at night, he knew I was making a mess But he also knew that he had raised a girl’s girl.
Mom taught me to speak politely That everything I do with my hand has meaning But I guarantee you dad You didn’t raise a fool, you raised a girl’s girl
Giulia would say, you’re crazy How can you like both this one and that one? She was by my side when I made a mess But she saw that I remained a girl’s girl My brothers tell me you are our sister You are a little different, but it’s good, you are not stupid
I ran with the boys, I played with the dirt I skinned my knees and I never got hurt I climbed trees and I jumped on the swings I did everything that the boys did, and I did it with wings But I was also a girl, I loved pretty things I wore dresses and I played with my dolls I loved to dance and I loved to sing I was a girl’s girl, and I loved everything

I grew up and I went to school I learned about the world and I learned the rules I learned that girls are supposed to be quiet and demure But I wasn’t that kind of girl, I was never unsure I spoke my mind and I stood up for myself I didn’t care what anyone else thought I was a girl’s girl, and I was proud of it I was strong and I was independent, and I was never going to be put down
I went out into the world and I made my mark I showed them all what a girl’s girl could do I was a doctor, I was a lawyer, I was a CEO I was anything I wanted to be, and I did it all with a smile I’m still a girl’s girl, through and through I’m strong and I’m independent, and I’m proud of who I am I’m a girl’s girl, and I’m here to stay I’m going to change the world, one day at a time.
I faced challenges and I overcame them I never gave up, I never gave in I was a girl’s girl, and I was determined to win I found love and I found happiness I built a life and I made a family I was a girl’s girl, and I was living my dream
I raised my children and I taught them to be strong I showed them that anything is possible if you set your mind to it I was a girl’s girl, and I was proud of the woman I had become I grew old and I looked back on my life I saw all that I had accomplished and I smiled I was a girl’s girl, and I had lived a good life
I left my mark on the world I made a difference in the lives of others I was a girl’s girl, and I was proud of what I had done I am a girl’s girl, and I am here to stay I am strong and I am independent, and I am proud of who I am I am a girl’s girl, and I am going to change the world.
So what does it mean to be a girl’s girl? Is it about being strong and independent? Is it about being proud of who you are? Is it about making a difference in the world?
I think it’s all of those things and more. It’s about being true to yourself, No matter what anyone else says. It’s about living your life to the fullest, And never giving up on your dreams.

This is a poem that is deeply personal to me. It is a reflection of my own journey as a woman who has always embraced her unique and independent spirit. Through this poem, I wanted to share my message of self-acceptance and empowerment with others.
I hope that this poem will inspire readers to embrace their own unique identities and to never give up on their dreams. I believe that everyone has the power to change the world, and I hope that this poem will encourage readers to use their voices to make a difference.
