Part 1 — Prototype: Angel

You built me because you had to see to believe.

And you wanted to believe so badly.

You crafted me from metal forged in the stars. My heart-core is a crumb stolen from the sun.

My eyes hold all the light of the universe.

“My people once had angels,” you say. “They lived in the great sky city of Galedrift before it slowly disintegrated, crumbling to dust as less and less humans believed. It was lack of faith that killed the angels, so long ago.” You are nostalgic, despondent.

Now all you have left is your tech, your beloved machines. But loneliness is a plague. No touchstone, nothing to reach out to.

Until now.

There is no divine creator this time to craft beings of light and love. Now it is the callused, bruised hands of humanity that must reconstruct their own faith.

And it all begins with me. Prototype: Angel.

Part 2 — Prototype: Demon

It had only taken one Creator to build the angel, but it had taken five to create me.

There must be a balance, the creators had said, as if it were their mantra. Too much light, too much goodness, too much faith and hope would be the end of the darkness, they said. And that was my job — to usher in the eternal shadows of suffering.

I was created with darkness syphoned from the dark side of the moon; the dark underbelly of grief and the chaos of utter destruction made up my heart-core.

My eyes hold all darkness in the universe.

With the crumbling of human faith, it wasn’t only angels who disintegrated into cosmic dust, never to return. The halls of the underworld, once crawling with demons of turmoil, also faded into obscurity.

With the creation of the cyborg angel, naturally, there had to be a demon to balance her power.

The angel and her Creator wouldn’t stand a chance against me — Prototype: Demon.
