Pros and Cons of Homeschooling
What are the downsides of homeschooling?

This is a good question that is asked fairly regularly. Of course, homeschooling isn’t for every family, but generally, the pros far outweigh the cons.
One of the many wonderful things about homeschooling is the community and like-mindedness of homeschooling parents who are fully committed to providing opportunities for their children.
One way they do that is by organising learning co-operatives where the parents share the job of creating learning opportunities for their kids.
You as a homeschooling parent are not required to teach your children all they need to know. That isn’t even possible. Your job, instead, is to support, encourage, and facilitate your children in their learning.
Pick up Brave Learner* by Julie Bogart and Little Men* by Louisa May Alcott next time you are at the library. One is non-fiction and the other is fiction but both show real-life examples of homeschooling.
Realistically, there isn’t much of a downside to homeschooling because you are in control. You set the schedule and the curriculum, and create the routines. There is minimal oversight. You are free to do what is best for you and your family. If something isn’t working, let it go and do something else.
That’s not to say it’s all rainbows and unicorns because it isn’t. But the work is what we all need to improve and don’t learn in schools which is relationship and communication skills.
