Prompts to tempt your muses

Welcome to the tenth week of writing prompts here at PW and the first full week of prompts for March. We are about to experience two beautiful warm days before Old Man Winter barges back in for the rest of the week. I don’t know about you, my Northern Hemisphere friends, but I am about done now with that old man. Unfortunately for my Southern Hemisphere friends, he is headed your way. But enough about the weather. I have some, hopefully, fun prompts for you this week. I want to thank all the amazing PW writers for continuing to thrill me with your work using these prompts.

Reminder #1 — You do not have to use just PW’s prompts to submit work here. We accept prompted work from any publications’ prompts. You also do not have to use prompts to submit your work here. We are also an open publication for established and new writers.

Reminder #2 — Please be sure to use the correct Reader Interest Tags when you submit your pieces so your work lands in their perspective places on the homepage. They are — Poetry, Fiction, Essay, or Articles. Please only use ONE, not multiples. Your other four tags can be whatever you wish them to be.

Reminder #3 — Please ONLY submit drafts. To do this, once you have finished your piece, instead of hitting the Publish button, click on the three dots (…), chose Add to Publication, click on Promptly Written, and then submit. This will put it into my queue and I will publish it on my end.

Reminder #4 — Each week, you will find prompts for Monday-Sunday. However, you do not have to use them in the order they are written. Browse them all and use only the ones that resonate with you. Submit your work any time during the week (or long after!).

Are you ready? Great! Let’s get to prompting!

Remember, if you previously wrote for PW, you will need to go to the Submission Guidelines and ask to be a writer again.

How This Works

  1. You may use these prompts to write poetry, fiction, an essay, creative non-fiction, or an article.
  2. You may submit here at PW, to any publication that accepts prompts from other publications, or self-publish on your own page.
  3. Please include a link to the prompt at the bottom of your story. This is so I know the piece is a prompted response.
  4. If you submit anywhere besides PW, please include a link to the prompt at the bottom of your story and add a tag back to me so that I do not miss reading your story (@ravynehawke)
  5. Have fun!

Moody Monday

Write a ‘moody’ piece around any of the following:

— sunlight streaming through the window — laughter’s in the air — search for the perfect skipping stone

Tuesday Twosome

Conceptual theme —Encouragement Twosome Difference and Diversity

Wednesday’s Either/Or

Either primordial or modern

Thursday’s Thoughts

“What you get by achieving your goals is not as important as what you become by achieving your goals.” — Zig Ziglar

Fiction Friday

Use any or all of the following concepts for a story:

— ancient runes/ruins — a ghostly appearance — danger is afoot!

Random Words Saturday

  • computer
  • jungle
  • export
  • reconcile
  • study

Spiritual Sunday

What are your attachments? What have you let go?

There you have it, me lovelies! A week’s worth of prompts to tempt your muses. I look forward to reading your submissions.
