Summary

Promposity is a Medium publication that provides writing prompts and community support for writers, with opportunities for submission and feedback, and promotes published works across various social media platforms.

Abstract

Promposity aims to inspire and engage writers by offering a platform for creative expression through writing prompts for various genres, including poetry, fiction, and screenplays. The publication fosters a collaborative community where writers can support each other as editors, prompt writers, and through other collaborative efforts. Submissions are welcomed for challenges, contests, and the Prompt Collection, with selected works promoted on social media and featured in monthly magazine stories and weekly newsletters. Writers can request to join the publication by submitting an unpublished draft in response to a prompt, and once accepted, they submit their work in draft form for review and potential publication. Prompt submissions are open during the first seven days of each month, with a maximum of five prompts per person.

Promposity Guidelines and Submission Instructions

Everything you need to know about submitting to the the best prompt site on Medium! Come join our community!

General

Promposity is a publication intended to provide inspiration and excitement about the writing process and the final pieces you create. Prompts will be provided for poetry, fiction and other types of writing such as screen play or stage play scenes. There may also be opportunities to respond to calls for non-fiction pieces about how to write different types of fiction, poetry and other creative writing forms such as screenplays and stage play scenes.

We want to create a community where writers support each other’s efforts and can participate in multiple ways in the publication. This may be as writers, editors, and prompt writers as well as through collaborative efforts. New features will be added over time and suggestions will always be welcome!

Guidelines

Use the prompt and your best storytelling skills to create a piece where the prompt, object, or words appear in a significant way in your work. While you will have some latitude in how you interpret the prompt, it must be meaningfully integrated into your piece. For contests, this will be part of the judging criteria. For challenges and free submissions, this guideline will be more loosely held.

There will be regularly published prompts which will begin as challenge or contest prompts and then will be added to the Prompt Collection.

Challenges and contest prompts will have deadlines, and each will have their own instructions for participating.

You can go to the Prompt Collection at any time, and write something in response to any of the prompts that are included.

All published works will be promoted in a variety of social media outlets including Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, Saidit, Hacker News, Pinterest and Mix. Monthly feature stories with the top pieces for the month will be published in the magazine and editors will choose pieces weekly to send in a newsletter to all of those who follow the publication.

How to Submit to Promposity

If you are not yet a writer, please send an email to [email protected] requesting to become a writer. Put New Writer Request in the subject line and provide a link to an unpublished draft that you have written in response to one of our prompts. This can be one for a challenge or contest or one taken from Prompt Collection.

The editor will review your draft and get back to you, usually within 24–48 hours. If you are accepted as a writer, you will be added to the publication and asked to submit your draft to be published. Once accepted for publication all works will be printed as soon as possible, ideally when they are accepted. In some cases, however, stories may be scheduled to be published within the next few days though we will try to avoid this whenever possible. If you would like your story published on a certain day, we will work with you as much as we can to accommodate this request.

If you are already a writer for the publication, submit your piece for review as a draft. We only accept work in draft form since stories are published in chronological order and so the most recent stories are the ones that will appear closest to the top of the homepage. The older the story, the less likely it will appear on the front page.

We prefer locked stories, since these are the only ones that are considered for curation but we will accept unlocked stories as well.

Submitting Prompts

Prompts will be accepted the first seven days of each month. Please do not submit them outside of these times. Anyone who has had a story published in Pomposity can submit prompts. You may submit a maximum of five prompts for consideration during each open submission period.

Please email prompts to [email protected] and put Prompt Submission in the subject line. All those whose prompts are selected, will be thanked and listed both on the publication and in a special newsletter sent to followers as well as on social media.

Please do not submit stories or prompts that you have published elsewhere on Medium.

Please return to this page regularly for updates to these guidelines.

We are excited about working with you and watching this publication grow through the power of community and strong writing.
