Summary

The poem "Promise of Hope" reflects on the transition from a harsh winter to a hopeful spring, symbolizing the resilience of the human spirit and the anticipation of joy, love, and divine grace.

Abstract

"Promise of Hope" is a poignant poem that captures the essence of the changing seasons, using them as metaphors for life's struggles and the enduring nature of hope. It begins by painting a vivid picture of the desolation of winter, with its barren landscapes and the emotional toll it takes on the soul. As winter fades, the poem shifts to the promise of spring, which brings with it new life, joy, and the tender mercies of God. The narrative then soars on wings of faith, suggesting that even when we have nothing, we can find solace in our beliefs and the hope of reuniting with lost loved ones. The poem culminates in a reflection on the end of summer and the transition into autumn, drawing parallels to the anticipation of eternity and the longing for a return to our spiritual origins.

  • The author expresses a deep faith in God's mercies and the promise of grace that accompanies the summer morn.
  • There is an emphasis on the emotional and spiritual comfort provided by faith, love, and the anticipation of reunion with those we have lost.
  • The poem reflects a longing for eternal peace and joy, which is seen as a natural progression from the cycles of the seasons.
  • The imagery of eagles soaring and the metaphor of hanging onto the cross signify reliance on faith during life's journey.
  • The transition from summer to the end of the year is likened to the approach of eternity, with a sense of yearning for what lies beyond.

Promise of Hope

A Poem of Longing

Birds above migrate to warmer roots,

Naked trees disrobe their colourful coats,

Seas pound their tides against stubborn rocks;

It was a long, lean and lonely Winter.

Hope sags in silence and faints,

As the chill digs deep into our souls.

The end is not as fearful as its feint,

God’s mercies did not strain;

Spring bursts forth in the splendid dawn,

Brings joy and new beginnings, as

Grace cometh with the Summer morn.

Time watches as we wait

For the tender mercy of joy,

For a safe place to rest our joints,

For joyous comfort to our souls,

For the warm embrace of love, and

For the blessings of loving grace.

On wings of faith we soar

Like eagles in the winds above,

With nothing in our hands,

Only to the cross we hang

On the hope of His promise

To unite with the loved one we lost.

When the Summer ends

With songs of thunder and trumpets,

On the music score of the seasons;

Eternity beckons from deep within our hearts,

With longing echoes from the end of days

Where we long to return at last.
