Pro-Life or Anti-Choice

The 1973 historic case Roe v. Wade determined that a person’s right to choose an abortion is protected by the U.S. constitution.
That court case was overruled by the U.S. Supreme Court, which means that each U.S. state is allowed to decide whether its residents can receive abortions.
It’s a significant step backwards and will harm a great deal of people, not only socially but also economically.
It is an issue of bodily autonomy; When you take away a fundamental right.
This is a war against women and their freedom to make a decision about their own body.
Abortion is healthcare
United States has the highest rate of maternal mortality. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, roughly 3 in 5 of the 700 women who pass away in the U.S. each year due to pregnancy-related complications that could have been avoided.
Pregnancy that is no longer viable will be forced to be carried to term, no matter what implications it may have on the person or child carrying.
What point would we intercept to save the life that is already earth side?
Is a woman really worth less than her womb?
Banning abortions does not get rid of abortions, it just gets rid of safe access to abortions. Banning abortions is only taking them away from under privileged minority women.
People who have the funds will find a way to get safe access to abortions, but minority women in lower income streams will not have this same privilege.
The Constitution
The constitution is 235 years old. Exclusively written by men. White CIS men, almost half of who were enslavers. 73% of the writers of deceleration of independence were enslavers.
One of the founding fathers of the United States, Thomas Jefferson, wrote in a letter to James Madison,
That no society can make a perpetual constitution, but the earth and rules belong to the living members of the generation. — Thomas Jefferson
Jefferson also wrote that
Every law expires at the end of 19 years and if it is to be in force longer, it is an act of force and not right.
So why do ultra conservativist pick and choose which part of the constitution they want to believe?
This is not only a matter of constitutional rights, it is a matter of ownership, control and capitalistic profiting.
What about the children you already have?
Conservatives argue that abortion is murder and they are pro saving lives. However, if it was really about saving lives, why are these conservatives not actively fighting for the kids they already have?
In the United States, there are around 424,000 children in foster care on any given day. Over 672,000 kids were in foster care in the United States in 2019. Children stay in state custody for more than a year and a half on average, and 5% of those in foster care have lingered there for five or more years. according to www.childrendsrights.org
Every year, 117,345 people are shot. 7957 of those are children. According to teamenough.org.
In America, there are currently an estimated 17 million children who are going Hungry, an increase of 6 million from before the pandemic. Additionally, 2.7 million more families are going without food. according to savethechildren.org
You want to reduce abortions?
- Invest in comprehensive sex education
- Improve access to contraception
- Require federal paid family leave
- Offer universal health care
- Offer affordable or free childcare options
- Priorities racial equity in health care
- Ensure access to safe and affordable housing
All of these issues are huge deciding factors on why someone chooses to terminate a pregnancy.
So, where are you conservatives? It’s your chance to speak up and be pro-life.
