Summary

The article critically addresses the stance of a gynecologist who supports the Dobbs decision and questions his understanding and compassion towards women facing miscarriages and other pregnancy-related complications.

Abstract

The author of the article expresses deep skepticism and concern over the views of a self-proclaimed pro-life gynecologist who celebrated the Supreme Court's Dobbs decision. This decision effectively removed the constitutional right to abortion, a move the author implies could lead to increased harm and suffering for women who experience miscarriages, which occur in approximately 1 in 5-6 pregnancies. The author argues that the gynecologist's position appears to ignore the medical necessity of abortion services in cases of miscarriage and ectopic pregnancies, where delaying intervention due to legal restrictions could lead to life-threatening sepsis and death. The article points out that the gynecologist may be overlooking the emotional trauma associated with prolonged miscarriages, where mothers feel the suffering of their dying fetus over an extended period. It also raises fears of increased legal scrutiny over women's reproductive health, potentially leading to accusations of intentionally harming the fetus. The author hopes the gynecologist is lying about his profession, as the alternative would suggest ignorance or a monstrous lack of empathy.

Opinions

  • The author believes the gynecologist's celebration of the Dobbs decision is misguided and insensitive to women's health and suffering.
  • The author suggests that the gynecologist may be underestimating the medical risks associated with miscarriages, particularly the risk of sepsis from necrotic tissue if abortion services are not available.
  • The article criticizes the gynecologist for potentially disregarding the serious implications of ectopic pregnancies, which are fatal to both the fetus and mother without intervention

Pro-Life Gynecologist: Liar, Idiot, or Monster

I read a news story recently about a guy claiming to be a gynecologist who was celebrating the Dobbs decision removing the right to abortion. He claimed that he worked with a lot of women who had miscarriages and that the pain they felt losing their baby inspired him to value life.

Bull Crap!

If he was really a gynecologist, then he must have missed where these women needed abortion services to remove the half dead fetus before it could kill them with it’s necrotic tissue. When abortion services aren’t legal, the fetus needs to be completely dead before it can be removed. By that time sepsis can set in.

One in every 5–6 pregnancies ends in miscarriages, with about a million miscarriages/year in the US. 2% of these go septic, that doesn’t sound like a lot, but it’s 20,000 women per year. What if one of those 20,000 was your wife, daughter, or sister? Would it be a lot them?

1% of pregnancies are ectopic pregnancies, where there is 0% chance that a baby could form. Ectopic pregnancies will always kill the fetus, and will also kill the mother unless an abortion is done. Was this “gynecologist” unfamiliar with something that happens 1% of the time (10,000/year in the US)? If he’s seen 100 pregnant patients, odds are that one of them had an ectopic pregnancy. Is he “celebrating” that woman’s death?

Maybe he missed the crippling emotional pain they felt carrying the fetus while knowing it was dying inside them, and there was nothing they could do to stop it. A miscarriage isn’t just a quick live one minute and dead the next. It can take weeks for the fetus to finish dying. The mother feels every spasm or convulsion as their baby dies within them. How devastating! How cruel is it to force both the fetus and mother through that? How can anyone “celebrate” that?

Was he thinking “hey, these women just aren’t suffering enough! They need to have police investigate them and accuse them of killing the fetus on purpose!”? That’ll help! Can’t have women come through something like this without crippling emotional scaring. Don’t tell me it won’t happen. Pro-life crusaders are already talking about monitoring women’s periods and questioning them if they are abnormal.

I’m hoping the guy is a liar and not really a gynecologist. That’s giving him the best benefit of the doubt. An actual gynecologist missing these things would be an idiot. If he actually was a gynecologist and saw these things, and still celebrated, he’d be a monster.
