Prince Returns to Minneapolis

Six Word Photo Story Challenge: Freestyle

Prince rises again in his hometown.

Recently, my wife and I watched the Houston Astros whip our Minnesota Twins at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Two weeks later, we returned with our son for more punishment as we watched the Detroit Tigers take down the Twins.

Both days featured near-perfect baseball weather. The Twins have performed well this season, but not during our two visits to the team’s home field.

As we approached the stadium for the Twins matchup with the Tigers, we drove to a parking ramp nearby. As we entered the ramp, a mural with three images of the late Prince, a Minneapolis native, caught our eyes.

On our third trip to Minneapolis in a month, my wife and I stopped downtown for lunch. Before we arrived at Brit’s Pub, we took a detour to view and photograph the mural. It was worth the walk.

Artists, led by Hiero Veiga, used a cherry picker to add final touches to the art as we watched from below. The project was started seven years ago. Prince even participated in its development.

Musical artist Prince Rogers Nelson died in 2016 at age 57. But with the 100-foot-tall mural, named “Seven” for one of his songs, he has risen again.

I told Vidya Sury, Collecting Smiles, who enjoys Prince and his music, that I would let her know when I saw more Prince-related art in Prince’s hometown. Vidya, this one is for you.

Thanks to Mary Chang Story Writer for hosting the Six Word Photo Story Challenge. It makes for short and sweet writing projects and fun reading, too.
