I came across this notice of his death as I was cleaning out my online files. I thought it appropriate to repost it given the state of the world’s affairs at this moment. 11/29/2023
Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, born Prince Philip of Greece and Denmark Born June 10, 1921, to Death April 9, 2021
In researching and building my family tree I have matched up generations 31–46 between Princes William and Harry and myself. Bloodline-related yes. I know we are cousins. By how many degrees I’ve yet to determine. I am first cousins with Elizabeth I. Eighteen times removed of course.
Charles and Diana are 13th cousins. And that shared ancestor is an ancestor of mine as well. It can all be a bit much pulling at the threads of centuries of royals on a family tree.
As of yet, I have no knowledge of the belated prince and I being related other than through his marriage to the queen. With that being said, we are still technically family.
A family member has died
I can’t say that I feel no way about his passing one way or another as that would be a lie. I do have “something” stirring. I just haven’t been able to put my finger on it quite yet. I have a love in my heart that is unexplainable for my family, alive or not, have met or not.
I’m still to this day after all of these years astonished at who is on my tree and from where I come. I would suppose in the coming hours and days this “something” shall settle upon me and I will have a greater understanding of my place in this universe as it is always shifting.

My condolences on your loss. Prince Phillip lived a good, full, long life. He squeezed every drop out of it for as long as he could. In that, there is solace to be found.

Find peace in your heart. He loved and served you well.
Prince Philip did not have the title of ‘King’ simply because the law of succession in Britain is based on gender and not bloodline. The parliamentary law means that when someone marries a King or Queen, they become known as a ‘consort’.
I’m sure the entire world knows by now that since his death QEII has also died. I really must work on that branch in a separate tree and see how we all connect.
