Summary

The author of the article notes a discrepancy in pricing on Amazon between Prime and non-Prime accounts, suggesting that Prime members may sometimes pay more for items due to included free and fast shipping.

Abstract

The article titled "Prime Vs. Standard Amazon Prices" discusses an observation regarding the pricing strategy on Amazon. The author, a non-Prime Amazon user, discovered that certain items, like Pokemon cards, were listed at a lower price on their standard account compared to a Prime account. This difference is attributed to the benefits of Prime membership, which include free and expedited shipping. The author recommends that shoppers check item prices while logged out if they do not require immediate delivery, as they might save money by opting for slower shipping associated with non-Prime accounts.

Opinions

  • The author implies that Amazon Prime members may not always get the best deal due to potentially higher item prices offset by free and fast shipping.
  • There is a suggestion that non-Prime members could take advantage of better prices for items that do not require expedited shipping.
  • The author expresses surprise at this pricing discrepancy, indicating it is not commonly discussed or recognized by Amazon shoppers.
  • A preference for cost savings over the convenience of fast shipping is inferred from the author's advice to compare prices while logged out of a Prime account.

Prime Vs. Standard Amazon Prices

Something I just noticed that I haven't heard mentioned before.

I am going to keep this short! I am sure many of you buy things on Amazon. I am sure that some of you have a Prime membership. I noticed something interesting while browsing for Pokemon cards.

I have a non-Prime account, and my fiance has a Prime membership. When I was first looking, I was on my account. I found a listing that was on a slight sale. I thought it was a great deal because it was exactly what I was looking for. I went onto my fiance’s account because my bank is linked to his account. His was listed at full price. He was charged more because he has Prime because he gets free shipping and it is a lot faster than the normal shipping.

If you find an item you want that you do not need right away, consider checking the price while logged out! If you do not need the faster shipping, and the item already has free shipping, you may consider saying a few dollars and take the slower shipping!
