Preventing Home Burglaries in Los Angeles and Orange County with Elite German Shepherds
Criminals can silence alarms and move out of video range, but pure-bloodline German Shepherds know how to respond
Luxury homes in Irvine and Los Angeles have been recent targets for international burglary tourism.
Here’s how.
Men from South America on tourist visas fly into Los Angeles and Orange County and begin driving through neighborhoods scouting for luxury homes. But not to buy, to rob.
They’re international burglary tourists targeting upscale neighborhoods of LA and Irvine.
Law enforcement officials say the criminals are often from the South American countries of Colombia, Peru, and Chile. They arrive on tourist visas which are tough for American authorities to track and they can stay for up to 90 days.
A burglar from Chile who is only 17 years old robbed homes in Pacific Palisades before being caught robbing luxury homes in Scottsdale, Arizona weeks later, as reported in the Los Angeles Times.
The thieves are professionals who patiently track when the residents come and go and wait for the right moment to find a way in, often through windows or picking locks on doors.
Some have even climbed to second-story windows. They can be in and out within a couple of minutes and take off with a haul of valuables.
Video surveillance and alarms are helpful, but recent stories out of Glendale, California show thieves are using devices to disarm technology.
Glendale police detectives released a statement recently saying, “Suspects are using Wi-Fi signal blockers to evade detection from home security alarms and cameras.
“Signal-blocking devices allow individuals to unlawfully enter homes undetected. This technology disrupts the signals emitted by home Wi-Fi systems, cutting the feed of traditional home security systems and cameras.”
Technology has its shortcomings in preventing burglaries while a centuries-old method still has value: elite German Shepherds.
Elite German Shepherds as a solution
A husband-and-wife team in Agua Dulce, northeast of Los Angeles on Highway 14, is world-renowned for their work in training and showing the most accomplished pure-bloodline German Shepherds in the world.
Michael and Jeannette Kempkes provide a white-glove, highly personalized service to select pure-bloodline German Shepherds for personal protection and companionship.
Clients for Kempkes Executive K-9s and Wustenbergerland, the kennels, are business leaders, celebrities, and other elite homeowners throughout greater Los Angeles, the Bay Area, Las Vegas, and cities across the U.S.
Michael Kempkes’ love for the dogs began during his childhood in Germany. He’s titled hundreds of German Shepherds in the sport of Schutzhund and has provided protection dogs for top officials and executives in Germany while training the dogs for sensitive assignments that have included guarding military aircraft.
The best pure-bloodline German Shepherds “have an outstanding temperament,” says Michael, who has received a lifetime achievement award from the German SV.
He compares the dogs to the most accomplished human athletes.
There are hundreds of professional major league baseball players in the U.S., but there’s only one Mike Trout. In football, Tom Brady’s name will endure for generations due to his accomplishments. Think of the great names in other sports, too, like basketball, hockey, and soccer.
Every sport and every profession has elite performers and so does the world of dogs.
Michael says the dog’s attitude allows it to learn and accomplish a great deal.
Here are two reasons why the dogs are valuable for personal protection in cities like Los Angeles, San Diego, and the Bay Area.
1. They have excellent self-control.
German Shepherds by nature are loyal and hard workers who want stimulation. Pure bloodline German Shepherds can restrain themselves in high-pressure situations and only take commands from their owners.
For families who have plenty of guests or workers coming and going in and out of their homes, the dogs know how to tell the difference between everyday situations and impending danger.
Michael Kempkes guides the dogs through training so they acclimate to the personality of their new family.
2. They’re adaptable.
For families who travel in sports cars, private jets, or yachts a pure-bloodline German Shepherd can adapt to the family’s surroundings and enjoy traveling, the office, or staying put in the family’s home.
Personable service
Michael and Jeanette are relational, not transactional when ensuring the dogs will fit well with clients.
Michael Kempkes has literally gone the extra mile and more and has traveled with the dogs aboard a family’s jet to ensure they’re calm and able to align their behaviors with the family’s expectations.
Clients are free to follow up with questions throughout the dog’s life.
Careful breeding
An elite German Shepherd’s life begins with careful breeding.
The German says, that the ‘Shepherd has been bred systematically since 1899. In Germany, careful attention is paid to their lineage and overall health. The vision of the founder of the German SV, Max von Stephanitz, ‘was to develop a capable, secure and even-tempered dog’ (German SV, “Everything about the Breed”).”
Training
Michael Kempkes’ training technique is moving the dogs at their own pace from one stage to another. He says he has an innate ability to sense how the dogs are feeling and behaving and he makes sure that they learn without being stressed.
Involving the Family
When it’s time to involve the family and present their dog, Michael is careful to supervise the transition from his training into the family’s home. The process may take a few days or longer and clients are able to ask him questions for the life of the dog.
Families who want a loyal line of defense that can’t be hacked like technology should consider the value of pure bloodline German Shepherds for personal protection and family companionship.
