Summary

Abstract

Upon reviewing the family calendar, the author stumbles upon a curious note indicating that their spouse is preparing for immortality, with Google as an unexpected sponsor. This revelation, found within the husband's private Google calendar, sparks a whirlwind of playful speculation about the end of the world, the possibility of a technological singularity, and the practical steps one might take to prepare for eternal life, such as canceling life insurance or hoarding lifetime memberships. Preparing for Immortality

Say what now?

I was reviewing the family calendar to make sure that someone would be available for the newly postponed floor installation. And I came across an intriguing entry.

My husband is preparing for immortality. And, apparently, Google sponsors immortality.

At any rate, the details of his preparation are in his Google calendar. Unlike our shared calendar system, I have no access to that.

What does he know that I do not? Is the world going to end? Perhaps we shall reach the singularity on that date and all the computers will simultaneously reach enlightenment?

What sort of preparation does one need to make for immortality, anyway? Cancel your life insurance policy? Stock up on lifetime memberships?

I suppose I could just ask him. But speculating is way more fun.

How would you prepare?
