Predawn Bunny Encounter

Sidewalks are not just for people….
I like to start my days with a predawn walk. After getting dressed and urinating it is the first thing I do each morning. I like to immerse myself in paradise before my brain starts thinking too much. It is the perfect time of day for a short walk. The birds are singing up a storm and the sky is turning all sorts of different colors. There is almost no traffic on the streets and no people on the sidewalks. It is just me and paradise and I try to soak up as much paradise as I can. It makes a huge difference on the rest of the day. This morning, however, I was not alone walking the sidewalks….
It did not get down to freezing like it did yesterday morning but it was still pretty nippy. I folded my arms across my chest for warmth as I walked. I wore no jacket and I was okay with this. Cold morning air is a great way to wake up the body. It is much better and healthier than caffeine. Despite the cold I walked slowly, taking in as much paradise as I could. And then suddenly I noticed a bunny rabbit on the sidewalk up ahead of me coming my way.
The town I live in is utterly swarming with bunny rabbits, especially in the early morning and evening. I see them all the time but usually when I see them they are in the grass or under a bush. This bunny rabbit, however, was taking a walk on the sidewalk just like I was!
I stopped and stood as still as I could. The bunny rabbit kept hopping down the sidewalk towards me. It kept coming and coming and did not stop until it was about four feet directly in front of me! That is when it stopped and looked at me with its little black eyes. I figured that bunny rabbits must not have very good vision because this bunny did not even notice me until it practically ran into me. Of course, bunnies have rather big ears and probably can hear quite well. I did not move so the bunny did not notice me but perhaps it finally got close enough to hear me breathing. Whatever the case, the bunny rabbit and I just stood there motionless for a very long moment looking at each other. It was utterly delightful.
Finally, the bunny rabbit turned and hopped onto the grass next to the sidewalk. Very quietly and slowly, I turned to watch the bunny rabbit go around me on the grass. Once it was behind me it hopped back onto the sidewalk and continued on its morning walk down the sidewalk. I silently laughed then I blessed the bunny rabbit and mentally thanked it for showing me the paradise we all live in.
I watched the bunny rabbit hop on down the sidewalk for a long moment then turned around and continued with my walk.
