Practicing Mindfulness of Sounds Meditation

Poetry Prompt: Reflection Time aka Twenty-Six Minutes of Thought

Photo by Conscious Design on Unsplash

This morning, as suggested by Lucy The Eggcademic (she/her), for my Twenty-Six Minutes of Thought, I practiced one of my favourite Mindfulness Meditation techniques, the 5 Senses — with a twist.

Today, rather than sit and connect with my 5-Senses, I sat and focused solely on the next 26 sounds I could hear — and noted them in my journal!

And now, I am sharing the sounds and moment with you!

Ready to tune in?

Perfect.

Here’s the 26 sounds I heard…

1. Plane flying overhead.

2. Birds tweeting and chirping.

3. Cars whizzing by.

4. Humans talking.

5. Paper rustling.

6. Fridge humming.

7. Mobile dinging.

8. Cocks crowing.

9. Strimmer strimming.

10. Car honking.

11. Teeth grinding (ouch!)

12. Car door slamming.

13. Car engine revving.

14. Car gliding away.

15. Dog’s barking.

16. Phone ringing.

17. Buses racing.

18. Human coughing.

19. Plane coming to land.

20. Children chatting.

21. Goats braying.

22. Bedroom door opening.

23. Feet shuffling.

24. Fridge door slamming shut.

25. Kettle purring.

26. Teaspoon clinking.

So, gentle reader, I invite you, when you wake up tomorrow, take a moment, settle yourself and during your 26-Minutes Reflection Time, listen, with awareness to the next 26 sounds you can hear.

And, if you’re up for it, share them here with other Brain Noodle readers!

And then…

Check out Lucy The Eggcademic (she/her) post, which inspired me to start journalling again…

And a 5 Senses Meditation Practice I did during a recent Twenty-Six Minutes of Thought. Enjoy!
