Powerless on Christmas

It was the week before Christmas And the house was a mess. It wasn’t the cleaning, Of that I confess
The problem was power, No juice in the plugs. Our food might go sour, We thought about bugs.
Six days before Christmas our power returned, But it wasn’t quite normal, sort of seesaw. The food came out burned. Or, it came out quite raw.
Five days before Christmas we called to complain: Send an emergency crew or our dinner will fail. No service today, because of the rain. Please send us the problem in detail by mail.
Four days before Christmas we called them again. Sorry our staff is busy festooning the tree But our crews are out working, you’ll soon see our men, If the problem continues, just let it be.
The season is Christmas and traffic is bad, Our crews are just human, they all need a break. No dinner at Christmas is really quite sad, But the power company’s not Santa, Christ sake!
Three days before Christmas and the frige is now dead, The freezer is bleeding and the TV shows snow. The computer is blinking and the UPS red, My family is seeking someplace to go.
Two days before Christmas, I have an idea I call the power help line and ask for a friend. The friend’s on vacation, so I spoke with Maria, Who put me on hold, she soon would attend.
The day before Christmas, I’m still on the line. Out of frustration, I whimper and cry. Our people are busy, your problem’s not mine. But tomorrow is Christmas, can’t you just try?
“Twas the night before Christmas. When all through the house, not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
The darkness was total. There was not a light To welcome dear Santa If he came in the night.
The beds were all empty, The cars were all gone On their way to Grandma’s. They’d be there by dawn.
A Grinch may steal Christmas And live in a tower, but the spirit of the season lives — Even without power.
