Power in Resistance: Scorpio Season Forecast

If Libra Season and its deeply-felt retrogrades brought us into the courtroom, Scorpio Season brings the sentencing. Modern astrology has thrown Scorpio fully into the hands of shadowy Pluto but it was traditionally the realm of Mars, making Scorpio one of the greatest tacticians of the zodiac. Aries, the other face of Mars, may be the warrior, but Scorpio is judge, jury, and executioner — a fact we’d best remember heading into the season ahead.
The Sun sweeps into Scorpio on October 23rd during a moment of tension between co-rulers. Both have been major players in the astrology of the last few years — Pluto for his part in the Capricorn Cabal and the conjunction which set 2020 into motion, and Mars for his continued squares with system-oriented Saturn — but this season belongs to one in particular, bringing the culmination of a defining astrological series of this year.
The Sun squares off with Saturn on the 30th, preparing us for the heat to come as Mars steps into the Scorpio war room. Saturn has always been an indicator of the establishment — governments, administrations, structures of power — but as we reach the end of an era marked by so many planetary transitions the Saturnian leopards have desperately tried to change their spots. For those rushing through the times to get to the next golden age it might be easy to mistake these efforts as genuine concessions to progress but remember: Pluto remains in Capricorn for several years to come, colouring Saturn’s behavior with a sort of Hail Mary desperation. The establishment by any other name is still the establishment, a fact we must internalize as Mars marches towards its final square of the year. Luckily Mercury brings a series of aspects that may help us see a bit clearer — a trine with sovereign Jupiter on November 1st, then a square to controlling Pluto on the 2nd before exiting its own retrograde shadow on the 3rd. Clarify your convictions and do not settle for the lesser evil.

The New Moon in Scorpio on November 4th arrives in exact opposition to Uranus, another of the year’s defining planets. Since 2018 its been redefining the way we think about comfort and necessity with widespread repercussions in food, money, art, and even employment. But as it stares down our luminaries — the two most personal forces in our skies — we’re reminded that every revolution has its cost. Whether your transformation been through personal initiative or because you’re backed against a wall, ask yourself who benefits from the changes you’ve made. There’s a time and a place for personal sacrifice but if you’ve come this far without any greater understanding — or are in fact more confused than ever — it’s time to change course.
Venus enters Capricorn on November 5th where she’ll stay until March of next year thanks to the upcoming retrograde. While Capricorn isn’t a classical detriment, this is a restrained Venus. Far from the indulgent goddess of love and beauty, Venus in Capricorn makes no impetuous demands. Instead she asks for calculation and self-control, urging us to prepare for leaner times. Venus retrograde has a reputation for rekindling burned-out love affairs and bringing ruin to star-crossed lovers, but Venus also rules aspects of money and popularity. By all means strengthen your relationships, but as we move towards this transit put aside some extra savings. Sagittarius Season always brings a generous extravagance, but this year may become an exercise in temperance as we build the stores to get us through the winter. This restraint is for a cause — your own.
November 10th brings the culmination of the Mars Saturn aspects we’ve felt all year as Mercury joins the God of War to stare down the Titan King. It’s time to speak truth to power, withering words to collapse an empire. But remember that aspects of this magnitude often exceed ourselves. The Outer Planets — like Saturn — tend to represent forces in the world at large, entities far beyond our individual experience. We may not see the exact results in real time but Mercury is a deeply personal planet and Mars too stokes personal flames. Just because you see no immediate outcome does not mean you have no part to play: Scorpio’s heat is transformational, the alchemical alembic which distills raw substance into its purest parts. It may be uncomfortable but this scrutiny is the only way towards true metamorphosis. In order to change the system we must first endure the heat ourselves. Be impeccable in both word and action and settle for nothing less in return.

With this new plan in place it may be easier to remove our glasses and see past the illusions paraded before us. The Sun trine Neptune on the 12th brings clearer vision of the path ahead while Mars opposite Uranus just a few days later reminds us that uncommon problems warrant uncommon tactics and remind us that we’re more than creative enough to implement them.
As the season draws to a close we arrive at the Taurus Full Moon. Full Moons can be tense, revealing exactly how and where we’re out of alignment, but with the Moon in Exaltation on November 19th there’s reassurance in this season’s release. Alongside a trine between revolutionary Uranus and currently-conservative Venus, we feel power in resistance. Venusian Taurus has strong ties to value, both material and spiritual, and this moon may illuminate areas where your expression doesn’t exactly align with either. Uranus isn’t exactly a traditional planet — since its discovery it’s been linked to periods of reform throughout history — but you may be surprised to find the biggest changes have been in presentation only. Use the next lunar cycle to rip away any decorative packaging and lay the matter bare. Resist the urge to rebuild redundant structures and resolve to sit within your own values in order to determine what actually comes from within and what may be projected from elsewhere. Sometimes the most efficient protests are the quietest — the strikes, the sit-ins, the walk-outs. Resist what is not yours and move into Sagittarius Season aligned with your truth.
