Posso Parlare un po d’italiano, ma non bene.
(I can speak a little Italian, but not well.)

Learning another language later in life as so many Americans do, rather than growing up with many (or at least hearing many), is a very challenging feat and one I hope to accomplish with flying colori (colors)!
I did learn Spanish in school and still know enough to be dangerous, but have not continued to use it (mostly because when I did people found it annoying and picked-on me for it), and so I would have a lot to relearn — hopefully some day I will, and certain clients encourage that currently.
Italian and Spanish are similar in many ways but also very different too. Although you can probably get by(ish) one for the other, I would still recommend learning each language if possible and desirable. My husband and I hope to live in Europe someday, traveling around, and immersing ourselves into the languages, the cultures, the history, the people, the walking, the lifestyle, and of course … the food!
It will be a lifelong dream come true and one I fully intend to make a reality, along with becoming multi-lingual. It may take me all of my life, and I am sure I will always more comfortably read in English; regardless though, I hope to converse with as many people in their own language as possible :)
Learning to Speak Italian fills my heart and soul with so much joy — it is a part of my heritage that I never learned (along with many others), and I just absolutely LOVE the language — è una bella lingua (it is a beautiful language)! *I don’t know how to make the accents soooo I had to steal that from Google but I knew how to say that all by myself — yay!
So far, I have used a number of learning platforms and all have been helpful; however, I do not dedicate as much time to this (or many other aspirations) as I would like and so I know it will likely take me a long time. If you have suggestions of how best to learn, programs or platforms or books, etc. that you have used, and tips and tricks, I am all … eyes (you know, since I would be reading it and not hearing it lol 😂😇🤣).

Oh and just a tip for anyone going to Italy. If a meal is superb, ‘ottimo’ will seeerve you well (pun fully intended). It is much more commonly used among the natives, and like many words in Italian it does have many meanings, but in this case it speaks to how amazing, perfect, delicious, etc. the food is — isn’t it always though … it IS Italy after all 😇😜😁
