Pierce’s Album of the Week —

This is the first of what will be a weekly feature here in which I review an album. Sometimes they’ll be old classics, but sometimes they’ll be old albums that are sort of obscure or little-known.

Other times, like this one, they’ll be about brand new releases. Entering Heaven Alive is the fifth studio album from musician Jack White. Although he’s been very well-known for several years as both a solo artist and a member of The White Stripes, The Raconteurs, and The Dead Weather, I was completely unfamiliar with any of his music until I listened to Entering Heaven Alive.

So, yes. It took me a very long time to discover the music of Jack White. I’m glad I finally did because I think this album is fantastic.

When reviewing albums, I generally like to highlight two or three songs that are my favorites on the album, but it’s very difficult to do that with this album — because all of the songs on it are fantastic.

Having said that, I’ll try anyway. I may have different “favorites” from the album later, maybe even as soon as later today, but my current favorite songs on Entering Heaven Alive are “Queen of The Bees,” “A Tree on Fire from Within,” “If I Die Tomorrow,” and “Please God, Don’t Tell Anyone.”

Another one that I love is “A Madman from Manhattan.” A question for those out there familiar with this song: Do you think the main guitar riff in it sounds similar to the main guitar riff from Neil Young’s “Down By The River?” I sure think it does.

As I wrote above, I think all of the songs on Entering Heaven Alive are fantastic. Because of that, I’m giving this album a very good review. Out of 5 possible stars, I give it….drumroll, please…4 stars!

Because I love this Jack White album so much, I’m now looking forward to exploring more of his music — both solo and from the bands he’s been in. If you’re a fan of Jack White, what albums of his should I listen to next?
