Pop Culture and Society

I find society fascinating and like most people, I find the many aspects of pop culture extremely interesting and at times thought provoking. Pop culture, whether it be movies, T.V. shows, music — they all have a significant influence in our lives.

The movies we watch, the lyrics and tunes to the songs we listen to, the books we read no matter the genre, they all have a substantial influence on us. We might be eager to recite a quote from a well — known movie when the opportunity strikes. It seems that we are always talking about the latest trending T.V. show. “I don’t want to spoil anything, but did you get to the part where…” When it comes to books, we find ourselves transported into a story where imagination knows no limits.

Out of all of these influences, music has impacted me the most. This is highly likely because I listen to music significantly more than I spend watching T.V. shows or movies. To be quite honest, I don’t watch too many T.V. shows. I find myself to be rather particular. I need something that will grasp my attention — something thought-provoking. The same goes for movies too. I believe the last movie I watched was a James Bond film — Casino Royale. I enjoy documentaries, science fiction and suspense.

There are many franchises that have influenced me or at least have caught my interest — Pokémon, Jurassic Park, The Nightmare Before Christmas, James Bond. These all vary by influence. Pokémon has to be my main influence having been interested in it since I was a kid when it debuted. The Jurassic Park franchise would be next to follow. The Nightmare Before Christmas and James Bond are more low key, casual interest for me, but I enjoy them nonetheless.

I feel like I have been missing out on a lot of really good books, movies, and T.V. shows. There are some that are on my bucket list. I would like to actually read more. I enjoy reading suspense and science fiction. I want to watch the Twilight Zone series. I’ve seen a handful of episodes and have found the series fascinating. I would also like to watch the old as well as the new James Bond movies. I’ve seen Casino Royale as mentioned before and part of Skyfall. I’ve enjoyed both.

Since music is my greatest influence, my next post will solely focus on my favorite types of music. I love a wide variety of music and what I like can be a bit surprising — like New Wave 80’s music (think Tears for Fears, Duran Duran for instance)! More about that and more though in my next post!
