Poor Air Quality — Pacific Northwest

Eastern winds bring high alerts

High winds from the East are bringing the smoky air towards the Oregon Coast this weekend. It is like Déjà vu stepping back in time when in 2020 we had a very smoky and hazy outlook and bad air quality in this area. Unfortunately there are multiple fires burning throughout Oregon, Washington and California that bring concern to local citizens and for our environment.

In Oregon currently some of the fires are 0% contained and some are up to 47% contained. Over 230,000 acres burned in the Central, Northeast and Southwest Oregon fires.

My alerts been going off the chart on my phone during yesterday and today. They come as a Red Flag Alert — potential for fire escalating in the area.

Normal fires are part of nature, yet when fires get out of hand and we have too many people can loose their homes, their land and serious health issues can arise.

It is important to keep updated from the US Forest service and follow their recommendations on what to do. Protect yourself and your loved ones from the low air quality by staying indoors, closing doors, windows and turning fans, air conditioners on if you can. Try not to add to the pollution avoid any burning (burning of any kind is banned now) even candles. Avoid using your vacuum cleaner as it adds to the air pollution. Avoid driving unless you absolutely have to go somewhere. The same rules go for the car as for the house.

There is a great little video from the US Forest Service on what to do and what you can do to protect yourself and others.

You can see from the picture in article I just wrote how different the air looked like just a few days ago.
