Summary

The website content introduces the first POLIprompt, inviting writers to share personal stories about their earliest encounters with politics, with the aim of featuring selected entries in a publication.

Abstract

POLIprompt #1, titled "When I Met Politics," is an initiative by Politically Speaking, calling for submissions from writers who wish to recount their first significant memories of political events or experiences. Participants are encouraged to request writer/editor status, link back to the original post, and tag their entries with POLIprompt to ensure inclusion in the Politically Speaking publication. The prompt specifically asks for personal narratives that reflect on how these early encounters with politics shaped the writers' perspectives, even if the events themselves were not widely recognized. Fictional stories related to political themes are also welcomed under the "Perspectives" tag, provided they are clearly marked as fiction.

Opinions

  • The author, Christina Ward, values personal experiences with politics as a means of understanding its impact on individuals from a young age.
  • There is an emphasis on the importance of storytelling in politics, as evidenced by the invitation for both non-fiction and fictional accounts.
  • The initiative suggests a belief in the power of diverse voices and stories to enrich the political discourse within the community.
  • By featuring selected entries in the first Letter, the author indicates a commitment to promoting and recognizing quality contributions.

Welcome to our first POLIprompt!

To participate:

  • Request to be a writer/editor for Politically Speaking (or post your response in another pub or on your wall if you choose.)
  • LINK this post at the bottom of your entry.
  • TAG it POLIprompt (so that it will collate into the POLIprompt tab on Politically Speaking)

I am not sure when I became fully aware of political goings on but I have a very clear memory of a certain event when I was young. I’d like to write about that so I thought this would be a great first prompt.

Think back to the youngest age you can remember some kind of political event or a trip to a government building, a political rally or a protest. As children we view things so much differently, perhaps with a very limited understanding of what is happening.

Write about your experience, your memory of that day / event. Make it personal. Tell us the impact this had on you. If you think the event will not be widely recognized you can describe it or leave a link for readers to follow. But take us there with you in that moment when politics became a part of your world.

We’ll call this one “When I Met Politics.”

If you choose to write fiction you may tag it under the Perspectives tag and put FICTION above your title or otherwise make it clear in your post. (There wasn’t enough room in the tabs on this pub for me to make a fiction tab, but fiction is welcome here.)

I look forward to your entries. A few will be featured in the first Letter.
