Summary

The undefined website presents the 2022 Writing Prompt Journey with Poetry Writing Prompts for Week Four, offering three themed prompts and guidelines for participation.

Abstract

The undefined website is a platform hosting the 2022 Writing Prompt Journey, specifically focusing on poetry for the fourth week of January. It provides writers with three distinct writing prompts: "Fool," "Button," and "Grief," each accompanied by challenge words to incorporate for an added layer of complexity. Participants are encouraged to engage with these prompts using various poetic forms, such as blank verse, ballad, or elegy, and to share their work by linking back to the original post. The initiative is designed to inspire creativity and community among writers, with the upcoming month's prompts themed around love. The rules for participation are straightforward, including writing based on the prompts, posting the work with a link back to the prompt post, and tagging the submission with "Writing Prompt Journey." The project is curated by Chelsea Marie, a writer and graphic designer who shares her passion for storytelling and encourages readers to support her work by becoming Medium members.

Opinions

  • The curator, Chelsea Marie, expresses excitement about the upcoming love-themed prompts for February, indicating a positive outlook on the progression of the writing journey.
  • The inclusion of various poetic forms suggests a flexible approach to creativity, catering to different styles and preferences of poets.
  • The use of challenge words within each prompt is intended to provide an extra layer of complexity, encouraging writers to push their creative boundaries.
  • By inviting participants to share their work and link back to the prompt post, the curator aims to foster a sense of community and mutual support among writers.
  • Chelsea Marie's personal introduction and invitation to follow her on Instagram reflect a desire to connect with the audience on a more personal level and build a following beyond the writing prompts.
  • The suggestion to join Medium through the curator's referral link implies that reader support can directly benefit writers, emphasizing the platform's model of compensating content creators.

Poetry Writing Prompts — Week Four

Prompts for January 22nd to 28th

We are just about to close out January. Can anyone tell me where the month has gone? I’m at a loss, but looking forward to sharing some themed prompts in the next couple of weeks for love month coming up!

Yes, it is time already for your Week Four Poetry Prompts! You can write using just one of the prompts below, use all three together, or take inspiration from the photos included in this post if you are more inspired by visual stimuli.

Your poems may be in any form, but here are a few different ideas to get you started:

  • blank verse: a poem usually written in iambic pentameter, with no end rhymes. Usually 10 syllables in each line of alternating unstressed and stressed syllables.
  • ballad: a poem that tells a story, written in quatrains (4-line stanzas), generally with alternating 8 and 6 syllable lines. The rhyme scheme is often abab.
  • elegy: a poem that does not require any particular rhymes or form. Elegies are poems that focus on loss or mourning. Elegies often try to come to some sense of peace or understanding of the loss by the end.

The simple rules for this Journey:

1. Pick a prompt (or two or three!) and get writing.

2. Post anywhere, and share a link in your post back to this Prompt post.

3. Share a link to your prompted writing in the comments.

4. Tag your post with “Writing Prompt Journey”.

And please don’t forget to post links to your prompted poetry in the comments, and link back to this post in your writing so more people can join the journey. I can’t wait to see what you come up with!

Chelsea Marie is a writer by night and graphic designer by day. She is a West-Coast Canadian with a bad case of wanderlust and a dream to travel the world with her severely airplane phobic partner. Why do the easy way when a complicated route makes a much more interesting story? She’s on Instagram @c.the.storyteller writing and posting poetry in her spare time.
