Poetry

From dawn till sunset I fast, Not a drop of water wets my throat, Not a grain of rice glides down my oesophagus, Yet! My physical body feels stronger than before, and my inner soul becomes calm and peaceful.,

As time comes to break the fast, the dining table invites me for the most delicious feast.,

Hot and cold beverages, Dates, nuts and pistachios, Food of different varieties, Meat and chicken recipes, Fruits of all seasons are waiting to quench my hunger and thirst.,

But my eyes search for a glass of water, Never had the water tasted so heavenly before.,

Following the practice of Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him, I chew a soft, sweet and juicy date-palm that never tasted so awesome before, Research says, hunger intensifies taste, My taste buds vouch to its truthfulness.,

The sight of food in abundance makes my body rush for prayers to thank my Lord for providing my sustenance and showering his blessings.,

Fasting teaches me the meaning of thirst and hunger, Makes me live the life of a poor for few temporary hours so I could be grateful for all that I am blessed with for the rest of my life, To understand pain and hardship of my fellow brother and sister, poor, needy and helpless and help them in abundance.,

Fasting for one whole month purifies my body, mind and soul kills off my worldly desires enhances the spiritual sense and wards off illness and evil thoughts.,

Ramadan fasting is an exercise, a training period to practice everything good for my physical, mental and spiritual well-being —

From all forms of alcohol, tobacco and drugs, my taste buds refrain.,

From looking at any obscene thing, my eyes abstain.,

My heart restrains from shameful desires.,

My body desists from doing any immodest or immoral action.,

My tongue holds back from saying hurtful, disrespectful and disgraceful words.,

I would be at terrible loss if I don’t fast this Ramadan, the month of blessings.,
