Summary

Abstract

The website content introduces a poetry collection titled 'Where I’m From' and extends an invitation to writers to contribute their own poems. The challenge is inspired by George Ella Lyons' famous "Where I’m From" poem, which uses childhood memories to paint a picture of one's origins. Participants are encouraged to write a poem of about 25 lines, divided into stanzas, reflecting their personal childhood memories. Writers are directed to a provided link for guidance and a template on how to write their poem. Submitted poems should be tagged with 'whereI’mfrom' for a special feature on the site. The editorial team, including Debra G. Harman, MEd., and others, expresses enthusiasm for the submissions.

Every day, we are treated to a great selection of short fiction and poetry. Now, it’s time to have some fun with a challenge.

George Ella Lyons become popular for her “Where I’m From” poem. Using a selection of images and phrases from her childhood, she paints a powerful portrait of her roots. Where she’s from.

I invite you to create your own “Where I’m From” poem — about yourself.

You will want to have a look at this link, and there are scores of links on the internet about how to create this poem. First, you’ll want to make a list of images, foods, colors, and phrases you remember from your childhood. Be creative!

Your unique poem should not be more than twenty-five lines or so, and you could of course go a bit shorter or a bit longer. Please divide your work into three or four stanzas and use the same general form as the original poem. You’ll find it on the link above.

Please tag (topic) your poem with whereI’mfrom. That way, your unique poem will go into a special display I’ll create for you.

We’re looking forward to your submission!
